July 2, 2008 SMC PLEDGES ALLEGIANCE TO KILLER MIKE & GRIND TIME OFFICIAL...

Killer Mike and his Atlanta based label, Grind Time Official, have joined forces with Bay Area based record label, SMC Recordings. The first release from this dynamic partnership will be the continuation of Killer Mike’s critically acclaimed Pledge series and will be titled, I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind II, in stores July 8th.

Killer Mike got his formal introduction when he first appeared on the Outkast single "The Whole World" for which he won a Grammy. Mike then signed to Outkast’s Aquemini label, which was distributed by Columbia Records, and in 2003 released his debut album, "Monster" which went Gold. After a short stay at Big Boi’s label, Purple Ribbon/Virgin, Mike decided it was time for him to make moves on his own and he established Grind Time Official in 2004. With no distribution, Grind Time still made an impact with Killer Mike releases including, “Dec Crack” in 2004, “The Killer” which won the SEA Mixtape of the Year Award in 2005, and “I Pledge Allegiance to The Grind I”, which won Best Street Album at this years Ozone Awards.

Pledge II boasts an impressive line up of both Southern and Bay Area rappers, which will include appearances by notable legends, 8 Ball and MJG, UGK and Trae, with more to be announced. As he did with “I Pledge Allegiance to The Grind I”, Mike will reunite with producers Chaotic Beats, Heatwave and The D Majors for part II and also will include beats from Marvelous J and The Beat Bullies.

Killer Mike is excited about teaming up with SMC, about being his own boss and is looking forward to bringing new music to his fans, “If you work hard and grind hard, it will pay off in the end! I was a worker, now I’m a boss!” Will Bronson, co-owner of SMC Recordings, is ready for the 2008 release, “All we wanna do is release great records by dope and refreshing artists– Killer Mike and the Grind Time Official artists embody that. Needless to say, (Killer) Mike is f**king perfect to kick 2008 off with!”

June 9, 2008 LATIN URBAN MUSIC’S HOTTEST NEW STAR GETS READY TO CONQUER THE US NEW ALBUM “MI SENTIMIENTO/MY FEELING”
“Mi Sentimiento” the debut album from Puerto Rico’s hottest new talents, MJ, has maintained itself at the top of the island’s sales charts for three consecutive weeks. Now, Latin urban music’s most exciting new face prepares for an all-out assault of the continental US.
Even though he is still in the initial stages of what promises to be a long and successful career in music, MJ as already created an immediate impact becoming one of Latin music’s most notable success stories. “He Venido” the first single from his debut album “Mi Sentimiento” hit the radio waves only a few months ago and quickly rose to the top of the playlist of Puerto Rico’s most important radio stations including the #1 position at KQ 105 FM and TOP 5 at Reggaeton 94 FM among others. The music video for the track is already in rotation in the nation’s most important music programming channels. Besides the success of the smash single, MJ’s popularity has reached across the boards through various high-profile activities in Puerto Rico. He was chosen as the official image of the campaign “Ni una bala mas al aire”(“Not even one more bullet in the air”), presented by “ Organización Frente Unido Contra la Criminalidad de Puerto Rico” an organization that exists to combat crime in P.R. during the later part of 2007. MJ’s talent was also showcased on a level of international interest when he was a primary performer during ex-president Bill Clinton’s recent visit to Puerto Rico.
The album “Mi Sentimiento/My Feeling” offers a fusion of reggaeton, bachata, dances hall, R& B and ballad sounds that combine to create a revolutionary sound unlike anything that Latin music has experienced before. This album was produced by the “Dream Team”: Eliel, Memo and Mambo Kingz. Wisin, half of reggaeton’s most important duo (Wisin y Yandel), collaborated with some of the album’s lyrics and Zion appears as a special guest.
The US version of “Mi Sentimiento” is re-branded “Mi Sentimiento/My Feeling” and was released June 3rd at all US retail locations and digital music stores online. It features 3 unreleased tracks including “She Makes Me Feel” which features one of urban music’s biggest breakout stars Sean Kingston. A video for the song will be filmed in the upcoming week in support of what promises to be one of this year’s biggest crossover hits. The album also features Franco “El Gorilla”, a pop version of the smash hit “He Venido” and 3 videos as bonus content.
After wrapping up extensive promotional activities in Puerto Rico, MJ will visit important markets in the US during the summer of 2008. MJ “Mi Sentimiento/My Feeling” is available today on CD/Digital/Mobile formats.

The multiple Grammy Award-winning rap superstar recently gave fans their first taste of “PAPER TRAIL” with the online premiere of “No Matter What.” The track – produced by Danjahandz (Timbaland, 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, Danity Kane) – is currently streaming exclusively at www.StreetCred.com. “No Matter What” is also on sale digitally.
“I must be a man and stand up and accept responsibility,” T.I. says when talking about his life and future after being sentenced to a year in prison on a weapons charge. “I exercised extremely poor judgment, and for that, I must be willing to pay whatever price that comes before me.”
“PAPER TRAIL” follows T.I.’s two previous #1 albums, 2007’s “T.I. vs T.I.P.” and 2006’s RIAA platinum-certified “KING.” With an unparalleled track record of hit singles – including “Top Back,” “Big Things Poppin’ (Do It),” “Why You Wanna,” and the Grammy Award-winning “What You Know” – T.I. is without question one of hip-hop’s greatest stars. April 29, 2008 ESTELLE LIGHTS IT UP WITH “SHINE”; BRITISH SENSATION CROSSES THE ATLANTIC WITH DEBUT RELEASE...
Homeschool and Atlantic Records have announced the upcoming release of “SHINE,” the hugely anticipated US debut album from British hip-hop/soul sensation, Estelle. The album – which features the current UK #1 single, “American Boy (Feat. Kanye West)” – lands in stores across North America on April 29th.
“SHINE” marks the premiere release from John Legend’s new Homeschool Records label, in partnership with Atlantic Records. “Her sound is a unique blend of hip-hop, pop, reggae and soul,” explains the Grammy Award-winning Legend. “She has a special voice, unlike any other voice out there in mainstream music, and she can really write. I’m excited and honored to have Estelle as the first artist on my label. I believe the world is going to fall in love with her album, as I already have. Estelle is an amazing talent, and she’s going to do big things.”
Legend – who executive produced “SHINE” alongside Atlantic Records Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman – is hosting a number of dates on Estelle’s current US club tour. The shows continue through a May 1st performance at Los Angeles’ Temple Bar (see attached itinerary). “American Boy (Feat. Kanye West)” continues to dominate the UK singles chart, standing tall at #1 for its fourth consecutive week. Last month, the track made history as the third-ever #1 UK single based on digital sales alone, following in the international smash footsteps of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” Here in the US, “American Boy” has just impacted at multi-format radio outlets nationwide, including Urban, Rhythmic, and CHR/Top 40.
What’s more, the “American Boy” companion video is looking like an out-of-the-box breakthrough for Estelle. The clip – directed by Syndrome (Danity Kane, Day26, Lupe Fiasco) – has already been added at MTV, MTV Jams, MTV Hits, mtvU, and BET J. Estelle has also been tapped fort he prestigious BET “Rated Next” and Vh-1 Soul “You Oughta Know” programs.
On April 24th, Estelle made her network television debut on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman. Additional television performances will include, the nationally syndicated Ellen DeGeneres Show, CBS’s Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“SHINE” is now available for pre-order via the iTunes Store. An exclusive “Deluxe Edition” is also on offer, featuring bonus tracks such as “Life To Me,” Estelle’s 2007 collaboration with renowned hip-hop producer Hi-Tek, as well as the music videos for “American Boy” and “Wait a Minute (Just a Touch).”
Executive Produced by Homeschool Records founder John Legend and Atlantic Records Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman, “SHINE” is without question one of the year’s most anticipated releases. The album features production from an array of studio superstars, including Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen), Wyclef Jean (Mary J. Blige, Shakira), Swizz Beatz (T.I., Jay-Z, Beyoncé), will. i. am (Justin Timberlake, Diddy, Chris Brown), and Supa Dups (of the famed Black Chiney sound system). Joining Estelle behind the mic are such talented artists as John Legend, Kanye West, Cee-Lo, and acclaimed Canadian dancehall/hip-hop MC, Kardinal Offishall.
Even with the star-studded guest roster, it is Estelle who shines brightest throughout the collection. Her idiosyncratic vocals – sensual, swaggering, and always special – unite the album’s diverse spectrum of sonic styles, spanning funk, reggae, R&B, soul, hip-hop, and anything else which strikes the West London girl’s fancy. Tracks such as the dancehall party jam, “Magnificent,” or the brass-powered “Wait a Minute (Just a Touch)” display mature confidence, deep soulfulness, and a remarkable gift for no-holds-barred emotional expression.
With “SHINE,” Estelle more than fulfills the promise of her 2004 debut, “THE 18TH DAY.” That album earned her widespread acclaim, as well as a series of honors including a 2004 MOBO for “Best Newcomer” and three consecuti
April 21, 2008 Tech N9ne’s Right-Hand Man Krizz Kaliko Hits The Road In Support Of His Forthcoming Debut Album TECH N9NE Presents: Krizz Kaliko Vitiligo...
Krizz Kaliko Will Perform At More Than 50 Cities In The United States And Canada On The Fire And Ice 2008 Tour With Tech N9ne And Paul Wall; Due In Stores May 6, TECH N9NE Presents: Krizz Kaliko Vitiligo Is Shaping Up To Be The Independent Rap Album Of 2008
After collaborating on dozens of songs with Tech N9ne and touring the world together, Tech N9ne confidant and collaborator Krizz Kaliko is set to unleash his blockbuster debut album, TECH N9NE Presents: Krizz Kaliko Vitiligo. Boasting an innovative music style Krizz Kaliko has dubbed funkra (a mélange of funk, rap, rock, R&B and opera), TECH N9NE Presents: Krizz Kaliko Vitiligo features songs that stimulate the mind, body and soul.
The album title reflects Krizz Kaliko’s life with vitiligo, a skin disorder caused by the loss of natural pigment and characterized by smooth, white patches on various parts of the body. Krizz Kaliko documents his experiences with the disorder on “Anxiety” and the title track. “It’s my life,” Krizz Kaliko says. “When you grow up having vitiligo like me, that’s what you’re about. It consumes your whole life. You’re constantly reminded of it every time you look in the mirror, any time you’re out in public and everybody’s staring at you. It’s descriptive of who I am, and it boosted me to talk more about my life. Any time I think about that word, it was like another story about my life that I could tell on my album.”
Elsewhere on the album, Krizz Kaliko sparks the party with “Do It Like I Do It” and teams with platinum rapper E-40 on “The Bidness.” He also shows off his singing chops on an ode to his wife (“Beautiful You Are”) and a cautionary tale (“Slow Down”).
In March, Krizz Kaliko embarked upon the Fire And Ice 2008 tour with Tech N9ne and platinum recording artist Paul Wall. The outing opened March 28 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado, and concludes May 31 at the Event Center in Casper, Wyoming. Below is the remaining itinerary for the Fire And Ice 2008 Tour.

April 2, 2008 The Real Freqs Stay Professional with Acclaimed Brooklyn MC, Skyzoo...
The Real Frequency, more than just a radio show in the Toronto hip hop scene for well over a decade, presents the first in a series of concerts entitled The Professionals. In an effort to bring quality music to a wide audience, while breaking new artists, The Professionals will see up and coming performers take the stage, both from Canada and south of the border. The first show will feature critically acclaimed MC on the bubble, Skyzoo, with Toronto’s own Tona opening. The Professionals, Volume 1 takes place on Thursday May 8th at The Rivoli (334 Queen St. W, Toronto).
As the flagship hip hop show on FLOW 93.5FM, The Real Frequency exposes the listeners to interviews and music from established and up and coming artists on a weekly basis. Although the show has only been at FLOW for only 3 years, DJs Musiklee Inzane and P-Plus, alongside host Arcee, have a legacy in college radio 15 years long. Their ties to the music community, and connection to their listeners is what prompted them to reach the masses, even when not on the air, by developing The Professionals series.
With such a strong following, The Real Frequency is seen as the go-to place for artists, and over the years living legends such as DJ Premier, Phonte, Masta Ace and more have been interviewed on the show. The concept for The Real Frequency began at York University’s CHRY 105.5FM about 15 years ago. Show creator and DJ, Muziklee Inzane paid his dues by hosting an overnight show, before taking command of a primetime slot. Arcee, an MC and Hip Hop connoisseur, went from visiting the show as a listener to becoming an integral part of the show as the host. P-Plus, known throughout the city for being a DJ dedicated to the craft, was added to the team in 2001.
Brooklynite MC Skyzoo has already received critical acclaim from DJs, fans, and the media. He’s brought back the golden era of hip hop with an adept skill of story telling, while still taking the game forward to unseen heights. Skyzoo has also worked with some of the most respected names in hip hop, including Little Brother, Maino, 9th Wonder, Parrish Smith of EPMD, Buckwild, and Black Milk, just to name a few. Tona has been making waves of his own across Canada. Based in Toronto, he’s gaining fans and acclaim of one the hottest lyricists of his generation. With his EP, Don’t Holla, Tona plans to leave his own mark on the music blueprint for Canada.

February 27, 2008 IMAAN FAITH TO RELEASE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM "LET THE TRUTH BE KNOWN" ON DEP / UNIVERSAL...
When rap musician Imaan Faith celebrates his Iranian culture's New Year next month, he'll be celebrating with the support of a who's who in the music industry appearing on Imaan's debut album "Let The Truth Be Known", releasing across the country March 11 on G.U.T.S. Records and distributed through DEP / Universal Canada.
"Haven't Seen U Smile", Imaan's debut music video, features none other than multi-platinum rappers Mopreme Shakur & Big Syke, members of the 'Thug Life' and 'Outlawz' groups formed by Tupac Shakur, the best-selling rap musician of all time. Tupac, whose two greatest hits volumes "Thug" and "Life" recently released on Universal Music, was Imaan's strongest personal and professional inspiration growing up in New York. Imaan's family immigrated to the US after the Iranian Islamic Revolution, before Imaan moved to Toronto as a teenager.
Imaan's "Haven't Seen U Smile" music video was directed by Gobi, a renowned British-Iranian filmmaker whose past music video credits include collaborations with musicians Tupac Shakur, Queen Latifah and Yoko Ono among others. Gobi was also a producer of the Oscar nominated "Tupac Resurrection" documentary, and recently directed a reality TV series with rapper/actor DMX.
In addition to Imaan's album tracks featuring Tupac producer Johnny "J", Eminem DJ Clinton Sparks, and Indo-Canadian bhangra producer Pama Sarai, an additional roster of artist heavyweights offered their collaborative support for Imaan's debut album: Freeway (signed to Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records and 50 Cent's G-Unit Records) ; Colby O (signed to Akon's Konvict Entertainment) ; TQ (formerly signed to Cash Money Records) ; and even Juno Award winner Snow.
Imaan Faith first established a name in Canada after releasing "You Got A Choice", an aids awareness rap single with Indo-Canadian activist Deejay Ra to raise donations for the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund Canada (NMCF), which received the support of CBC's George Strombo and CFRB's Spider Jones.
Imaan is currently planning a tour of Toronto high schools as part of Deejay Ra's 'Hip-Hop Literacy' program, building on a "Peace In the Streets" event they held in December 2006 at Mandela School in Toronto's Regent Park, at which Imaan performed and discussed his music with students during a morning assembly.

Community leaders, with support from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Foundation, will hold the second annual “Queen Street UNMASKED” on Wednesday, February 27th at the Drake Hotel, 1150 Queen St. W., starting at 8:30 p.m. This unique fundraising event will support CAMH’s redevelopment project and help eradicate the stigma surrounding mental illness and addiction. Presented by Bell, Ernst & Young and The Orlando Corporation, “Queen Street UNMASKED” will showcase everything the Queen Street West community has to offer.
“The inaugural Unmasked was hailed as a wonderful new addition to Toronto’s event scene, and we have built on that success by adding many exciting new elements,” says Ana Lopes, event chair and member of the CAMH Foundation’s Transforming Lives Campaign Cabinet. “Toronto’s arts, business, culinary and Queen Street West communities have come together in an extraordinary show of support for CAMH.”
“Queen Street UNMASKED” offers three floors of food, refreshments, entertainment, dancing and more. Some of Toronto’s most notable artists and galleries have donated works of art to be featured in a live auction during the evening, which will include works by Charles Pachter, Edward Burtynsky, Susan Collett, John Scott, Scott Conarroe and Michel Lambeth,
Among the lively entertainment lined up is a performance by singer/songwriter Serena Ryder, whose soulful lyrics and mesmerizing vocals have won critical acclaim. Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer K-OS will be adding his talents and magic to the evening as celebrity DJ, and George Stroumboulopoulos from CBC’s The Hour will act as MC.
Earlier in the evening, a series of exclusive “Queen Street Unmasked” dinner parties will be held at restaurants, galleries and lofts in the Queen Street West area with menus created especially for the event by some of Toronto’s top chefs. Dinner guests will then join the Party at the Drake.
The “unmasked” theme symbolizes the removal of the stigma that surrounds mental illness and addiction.
“These issues impact one in four Canadians, yet many do not seek or receive adequate treatment – improving that situation is of paramount importance,” says Mary Deacon, President & CEO of the CAMH Foundation. “People are often ashamed or afraid to talk about these illnesses – which can prevent them from seeking the help they need. All who support “Queen Street Unmasked” are helping to effect transformative social change, and we thank them for their remarkable commitment.”
Proceeds will support CAMH’s redevelopment of its outdated facilities at the Queen Street site into a new kind of hospital for addiction and mental health, part of a mixed-use urban village that will become a vital and energetic component of the Queen Street West neighbourhood and of the city of Toronto.
Tickets to The Party cost $150. For more information or to order tickets, please visit www.supportcamh.ca or call 416-599-2550.

Digital Media Wire and Rogers MusicStore CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK announce that Nina Guralnick, Live Earth President will participate in a keynote Q&A at the 2008 Millennial Conference in Toronto on March 5th. The address will focus on how Live Earth has integrated technology to engage the Millennial generation in the environmental conversation and how this group is important in solving the climate crisis. The discussion will address the impact of global warming on this cohort and how Live Earth was able to mobilize Millennials to participate in a worldwide campaign.
“We are very excited to have Nina participating in this important event,” said Millennials Co-Chair and Digital Media Wire, CEO Ned Sherman. “In the next few years, the Millennial generation will outnumber both Baby Boomers and Gen-Xers and will be the most significant consumer sector for the media & entertainment industries. Nina and Live Earth are on cutting-edge in terms of understanding how to mobilize and connect with this generation around music and social causes.”
As president of Live Earth, Nina Guralnick works directly with organization founder, Kevin Wall, to define Live Earth’s long-term strategic vision, which seeks to leverage the power of music and integrated entertainment to reach audiences worldwide, motivating them to take action to solve the climate crisis. “The Millennial generation will be the most affected by global warming and thus is critical to the conversation about how to solve the climate crisis,” said Nina Guralnick, Live Earth president. “I’m happy to be playing a role in this international forum to share Live Earth’s success in engaging Gen Y in this important issue and look forward to discussing how we all can continue to promote activism in today’s youth.”

February 20, 2008 THE INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS ANNOUNCES THE LOWEST OF THE LOW AS INDUCTEES FOR THE 2008 INDIES HALL OF FAME...
Saturday, March 8th at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto
Performances By The New Pornographers, Tokyo Police Club, The Besnard Lakes, Young Galaxy, Attack in Black and The Cliks
www.cmw.net www.thelowestofthelow.com
Legendary Canadian rock group, Lowest of the Low will be inducted into the Indies Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 8th as part of the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards. Presented by inDiscover.net, “The Indies” celebrate outstanding achievement in sound recording and live performance.
Lowest of the Low, recognized by hits such as "Motel 30", "Eternal Fatalist", "Salesmen, Cheats & Liars" and "Bleed A Little While Tonight", are identified as one of the groups responsible for Toronto’s independent music explosion of the early ’90s. They quickly established themselves as one of Canada’s finest bands, blending literate, astute lyrics with a sound that effortlessly ranged from folk to punk.
All too soon it came to an end as the band called it quits shortly after the release of their sophomore album Hallucigenia. For six years, between 1994 and 2000, the Low was gone but definitely not forgotten. CD sales continued at a steady pace as a new generation of music fans discovered the band and the landmark 1991 debut album, Shakespeare My Butt landed solidly at No. 6 on Chart Magazine’s list of the Top Canadian Albums of All Time. Voted from coast to coast by various musicians and music industry professionals throughout the nation, the album ranked 84th in Bob Mersereau’s “The Top 100 Canadian Albums”, published in 2007.
As time passed, the band came together again to play some reunion shows with an absolutely enormous audience waiting for them. The success of these few shows led to two cross-Canada tours and a live album called Nothing Short of a Bullet (2002). Further accolades included the 102.1 The Edge/Now Magazine Hall of Fame award and Ron Hawkins being voted Toronto’s Favourite Songwriter in the Now Magazine readers’ poll.
In 2004, the Low was signed to MapleMusic Recordings in Canada where they created their first studio album, Sordid Fiction (2004), in 10 years. The compilation was produced by Canadian rock legend Ian Blurton (The Weakerthans, From Fiction, C’mon) and mixed by Seattle uber-producer, Adam Kasper (Nirvana, The Tragically Hip, Foo Fighters). For two years, the band toured extensively across Canada and throughout the U.K., with frequent U.S. spots.
In 2007, the group played the Grey Cup Festival, followed by a performance at the Horseshoe Tavern’s 60th Anniversary celebration in Toronto. Finally, in December the band assembled in Buffalo to play a final, sold-out performance together at Club Infinity. Marking over a decade of making music together, The Lowest of the Low will reunite for an encore performance of fan favourites at The Indies to commemorate their induction into the Indies Hall of Fame.
Celebrating the best in Canadian and international independent music, the 2008 Indies will include performances by the New Pornographers, Tokyo Police Club, The Besnard Lakes, Young Galaxy, Attack in Black and The Cliks.
Tickets are $30 and may be purchased online at the Rogers MusicStore CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK web site at www.cmw.net or by calling 905-858-4747. Tickets can also be purchased at all Ticketmaster & TicketBreak outlets - www.ticketmaster.ca, www.ticketbreak.com or 416.870.8000, 416.640.0966 to charge by phone.
