Various
Boogybytes Vol. 05 mixed by Seth Troxler

Taking on the captivating form of teacher and DJ Seth Troxler readies what is a mass of form and function. These sounds not only will excite you but also encourage the listener to guide themselves through this wondrous ensemble of modern day tech funk and minimal entities with ease. Seth’s accomplishments can be traced through the group trio of Visionquest (Seth, Ryan Crosson & Lee Curtiss) and with the rework of recent Kiki material, club adventures at Watergate and various releases on notable techno labels. Drifting through the seamless and well arranged tracks we drop in and out of mind altering techouse. Yes the beats are deep and dark but they also carry on a soulful image and groove. Baeka Right At It is a perfect example of this happy formation of the two genres. Smooth innocent strumming laced with horns and beautiful lyrics. Walking along into a darker place but not giving you that uncomfortable treatment Dinky featuring Update drives a quirky vocal display on Westoid. It’s a laid back listening track but also one you could swagger beside a bar and carry a conversation on with. Going for the gritty and darker side of things Seth Troxler turns over his soul to Thrill Cosby on Heartthrob’s Signs. As most producers align their path in life some will come to want to work with artists such as Jesse Siminski aka Heartthrob and the crew on M_nus and succeed with a well crafted master piece. One of my favorite rock acts from 08/09 is Fever Ray and I was very impressed to hear a reworking by Seth Troxler on Seven. Holding the true spirit of the original track with its enigmatic and modern rock influences Seth delivers the goods through a care free 4/4 beat on the deep side with wobbly rolling bass and a haunting sound that appears from the background to invoke some divine madness onto the listener. Rounding up the fabulous track selection we end with Nicolas Jaar Time For Us. Soon to be released on Wolf + Lamb Nicolas stirs up that last bit of sanity you hold with a lo fi deep track and takes the downward spiral into a down tempo groove before the song delivers its final note. By far the best compilation I’ve heard for 2010 and I look forward to more releases by Seth Troxler. [Oxide] www.bpitchcontrol.de
