Gavin Hardkiss returns once again with his fourth album and it would seem he is drawing on his youthful experiences to guide him along the path to some unfinished dream perhaps. Taking on a different persona in the studio Gavin Hardkiss attacks the edgier pseudo electro rock, noisy experimental and lo fi down tempo with a lot of grace. The one track that sticks out a lot for its incredible stature is "Everything is Happening at the Same Time". It’s a modest roll into a rock track with some funky energy, much like a Pet Shop Boys track you drift endlessly into its dreamy sound and calming lyrics. It cuts off with a cute childlike playground soundscape leaving you with a good feeling. Combing through the other tracks you go through the genres and obscurities on ’Inside Job’ the instrumental and percussion grasp the entire song and leave you with a feeling of curiosity. The tribalesque drumming and soft guitar strumming causes most of this emotion. The commonly used phrase ’Bob’s my Uncle’ names one of the more progressive edged productions with a bit of a big room groove but settling down once again with a soothing vocal. A lot of the music takes you back to calmer times when the Shamen, Soup Dragons ruled the world of UK rock. No complaints there as those groups music still rotate in the CD player. Here’s looking forward to more Hawke efforts from mister Hardkiss.
