The Dirty Sample
The Perfect Mask

The back catalogue of Calgary producer The Dirty Sample may include instrumental albums, vocal production for himself (rapping as Planit) and others, and some great remix work (keep an eye open for his official remix of D-Sisive’s The Book), but tapping into the obsessed fanbase of everyone’s favourite rapping supervillain is the move that will most likely get him noticed, like Danger Mouse with his remix of Jay-Z’s The Black Album. Compiling guest verses and older 12” tracks, The Dirty Sample provides a new, gritty backdrop that is a perfect match for DOOM’s drunken drawl and comic book rhymes, but best is his harmonica-heavy beat for “It Ain’t Nuttin’.” The Dr. Doom-referencing interludes are also a nice touch and add authenticity to the mix. The Perfect mask is a great combination of rare DOOM verses presented in a new way thanks to The Dirty Samples’ dusty record collection. But with so many one-verse tracks making the cut, it’s a short EP at only 17 minutes.. Still, being brief, fresh and free, there is very little effort needed to discover this dirty Canadian secret.
