KIKI
KAIKU
Joakim Ljäs’s creative process is one that takes on phases of uncertainty and clarity at the same time. The long awaited endeavors worked themselves out with patience and resulted in works that are removed from club play to more emotional mood altering compositions. In a world where techno and minimal roll down a similar skewed track its hard to place the following in any category but I’d rather just enjoy them for what they are. Finely crafted works with crunchy bits covered in thick layers of pounding kicks accenting only the intricate melodies of soft keys. "Good Voodoo" featuring Chela Simone gets the mood set with a ’Plastic Dreams’ styled dreamy soundscape with subtle vocal stabs to lift up the deep character of the track. "Starslider" hovers over a dark bass line that guides the entire soft key arrangement while wrapped up in a peculiar bouncy repetitious bell. "Twins" goes for the Twins Peak odd and sinister emotion while climbing key notes before dropping a quirky vocal by Jake the Rapper. The onslaught of "Twins" lyrics filters across the heavy pulsation of chords in an unusually frightening manner. It would seem after listening to the entire album that Joakim Ljäs might have isolated himself in a cavern to construct this album but knowing there were other artists involved it might have been an interesting journey to see how Joakim might have lived during this time
period before releasing KAIKU.
