		Filthy Dukes Fabricelive 48

Filthy Dukes (Olly Dixon & Tim Lawton) are the answer that so many seek. The duo’s collaborative efforts have been a huge success at their own Kill Em All club night which is now residing at Fabric. These two blokes interweave the emerging and popular indie danceable rock music we hear all the time, (Justice, Cut Copy, Crystal Castles etc.) along with similar sounds from pioneers such as Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and so many more alike. The differences aren’t that much off except the melding of two scenes. Rocksters and EDM lovers unite now as one since their arrival 3 years ago at Fabric. Fabricelive 48 is a beautifully crafted ’set’ that Olly Dixon & Tim Lawton would normally lay down in a night. The tracks range from gritty electro rock to flowing poppy electronic tracks. Sparks "Beat The Clock" is a perfect example of funky rock rhythms and straight up danceable and hypnotic vocal arrangements, in essence it’s just a good fun party jam. Since the popularity of electro has molded into more rock and dance tracks with wobbly chords and numerous effects with acid lines from gear from the 90’s it would be fitting to say the new wave has arrived on Mujava "Township Funk". Blip happy and still in control of the energy the song drifts toward the dance floor with a march like kick drum following the bouncy nature of the track. Not to date the sound but Joakim "Watermelon Bubblicious" removed you and drops you into pre rave era. The organ stabs remind you of a 2 Unlimited track gone, well in the right direction according to today’s standards. As the compilation moved on from rock to dance and back into more mellow rock it’s nice to depart the electro styled songs for some chilled beats. Jack Peñate "Tonight’s Today" suites the part perfectly. Mellow vocals over a symphony of instruments show the raw energy that transpires from Jack Peñate. When listening or skipping from track to track you’ll be welcomed by a smooth mix and transition from musical genres with ease which is nice to hear as attending some club nights where DJs try to capture what is here is unattainable but I am unsure why their skills lack. Embracing the ’different is good’ mentality is good to see the Fabric. Releasing Fabricelive 48 with the Filthy Dukes has proven once again that they are ahead of the game and always pursuing innovative sounds from artists. [Oxide] - www.fabriclondon.com Fabric
