Beyonc
Dangerously in Love

Expectations were high for this release following the catchy lead single, Crazy In Love, featuring her (rumored) love interest Jay-Z, but Beyonc fails to deliver on her solo debut, Dangerously In Love. When shes not weighed down by sluggish production (Yes, Speechless, Me, Myself And I, etc.) or reinterpreting classic R&B/Funk hits like Donna Summers Love To Love You (on Naughty Girl) or Bootsy Collins Id Rather Be With You (on Be With You), she does make a couple of memorable songs, and its only with outside help. OutKasts Big Boi and Sleepy Brown inject Hip Hop Star with Dirty South credibility, and dancehalls artist-du-jour Sean Paul makes Baby Boy a strong candidate for a future single release. Even Luther Vandross and his inimitable crooning adds a touch of class to the ballad The Closer I Get To You. Unfortunately though, despite Beyoncs talents as a singer, clichd love songs and uninventive production make this a largely forgettable outing, and the edginess and attitude of her work with Destinys Child is missing in action.
