Performance Works - The folks programming this year's event are no dummies and realize youth must be served if the
festival is going to grow and prosper. So, on the musical platter Monday night was an offering in the form of Attic recording
artists, The Pocket Dwellers - a Toronto-based eight-piece of 20-something's that has a few ideas about the menu. Their
red hot funked up set at Performance Works made the point and all anyone needed to do was direct their attention towards
the stage to get the drift. A crazy, cool scratchmeister on turntables, a wicked horn section and a drummer with more snap
crackle and pop than captain crunch spiced up this sonic snack that one slightly cooked jazz fan called a musical omellete of
funk, reggae and hip hop. Who cares if the lads are a wee bit short on songwriting chops these days - the groove takes the
cake and the crowd ate it up. [VT Editor, Bruce Charlap]
