OPOPO built their performance around driving beats and otherworldly tones. In the beginning of their career, they exclusively played with electronic tracks, a style captured on their debut EP (self titled
“OPOPO”) released under Urbnet records in 2008. Their sound is well represented in this release but the true synergy between members is best experienced in a live setting. Electric rhythms surge through
the audience, as guitars and synthesizers gnash teeth amongst the pulsing drums- powered by their live percussionist whose fluid stamina challenges that of any automaton. Their goal is to make the
audience move and to steer each listener along a raw melodic current. Electronic elements stem from each member’s musical devices as the fusion of traditional live instruments with new technologies shapes
their technical sound spectrum. The four eagerly embark on this trip with fertile minds, as they develop each other’s ideas along the way. The stage kicks things off for the band, but the rest of the
experience is for the listener. OPOPO’s full-length album is expected Spring 2009.
The four have been close friends for over a decade, but the band itself is a fresh venture. In their short run, they have played with such acts as the Klaxons, Oasis at Virgin fest 2008, DJ’d Roger’s picnic 2008, as well as opened for Toronto’s CD release of the
Stooges “The Weirdness” in 2007. They represented Canada at SPOT festival in Aarhus, Denmark. OPOPO signed with Urbnet records in 2008, after playing the Steamwhistle UNSIGNED series, and are planning more dates across North America and Europe in the coming year.

As the emerging dance rock movement continues to spread across the city and the country, the members of OPOPO have demonstrated their ability to push creative boundaries in song writing and stage antics, as they conduct one of the freshest live acts to rock the Toronto dance floor.
