Born Steveland Morris in Saginaw, Michigan in 1950, Wonder enters his fifth decade as one of the most prolific artists in music history, delivering 35 U.S. albums - 28 major studio releases - with album sales totaling more than 72 million units. The singer/songwriter has scored more than 30 Top Ten Hits, 11 #1 Pop singles, winning 19 Grammys (and a Lifetime Achievement Grammy in '96) and a host of other awards, including, most recently, Billboard's 2004 Century Award. His contribution to worldwide social and political change is just as impressive, with Wonder championing the effort to make Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday, as well as becoming a driving force behind 1985's USA For Africa campaign. The new millennium found music fans marveling at Wonder's incredible staying power, acknowledging the brilliance of his 40-plus year career with a slew of awards.
Inducted into the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame in 2002, he was the first African American to be awarded the Johnny Mercer Award in 2004, in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding creative works. At the end of the year he was presented with Billboard's highest honor for creative achievement, The Billboard Century Award, whose past honorees include George Harrison, Joni Mitchell, and John Mellencamp, among others. One of the most successful dancehall and reggae artists in the world, Sean Paul is also a first-class rapper who began getting attention in the U.S. after a string of successes in Jamaica. He was nominated for four awards at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards, including male artist of the year, rap artist of the year, hot 100 single of the year and pop single of the year for “Temperature.” His albums include Stage One, Dutty Rock (which has sold over six million copies worldwide), The Trinity, and his latest, The Next Thing, scheduled for a summer 2008 release.

The Pemberton inaugural lineup includes big names such as Coldplay, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Nine Inch Nails, Jay-Z, The Tragically Hip, Interpol, Death Cab For Cutie, My Morning Jacket and Flaming Lips, plus up and comers Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Grand Ole Party and The Airborne Toxic Event. There are two stages and a dance tent with more than 50 bands in all over the three day festival. The festival represents the first European-style festival Live Nation has started from scratch.
Pemberton, a two-hour drive from Vancouver, has long been a favorite winter vacation destination due to its close proximity to Whistler Resort (where many of the 2010 Winter Olympic events will take place). Complete with a festival village, camping facilities, an RV Park, tickets for the Pemberton Festival go on sale through www.PembertonFestival.com beginning Friday, March 28th at 10:00 a.m.
With artists performing with majestic snow capped mountains as their backdrop, every effort is being made to produce the festival with as little impact on the environment as possible. Hydro-electric energy will be the main power source for the festival’s energy, and the festival will promote car pooling with the incentive that cars coming in with four or more people will be able to park for free. And local Pemberton Valley farm products, which the area is well known for, will be served throughout the 360 acre festival site. A farmer’s market --where local farmers can sell their goods directly to concert-goers -- is even being planned for the site.

A Tribute to the Godfather of Soul: Bootsy Collins joined the James Brown band at a ripe old age of 17. After the Godfather taught him to play on “the One”, he let Bootsy loose to do his thang. As long as it was James Brown tight, he could play all night. Now Bootsy, and the original JB’s (Brown’s original backing unit), will play along with Catfish Collins, Jabo “on the one” Starks, Clyde “the funky drummer” Stubblefield, and Johnny “the Afrikan Groove-ulator” Griggs. Bobby Byrd’s son, Bart Anderson Byrd, will sit in for Bobby Byrd on the organ. Tony Wilson, who Mr. Brown himself acknowledged as the Young James Brown, will sing, prance, and dance. The Bobby Byrd Band will perform featuring Mrs. Vicky Anderson Byrd. Brown acknowledged Vicky Anderson Byrd, wife of Bobby Byrd, as one of the best singers he ever had in his revue, even one of the best singers he’d ever witnessed.
Venisha Brown, the daughter of James Brown, who not only looks exactly like him, but also dances just like him, will also perform. She’s got the swerves, she’s got the curves and she knows that Papa Didn’t Take No Mess. Venisha doesn’t either; she’s got Soul Power. Escapism Band, put together by Brian Hardgroove (bass player for Public Enemy), will make the night funky. FreekBass, will bring an onslaught of his own Bootsy-style bass. Have no doubt, he will definitely finger funk you up! ZionPlanet10, is the youngest at 14 years old. But even at this age, he has the talent and wisdom of a young Stevie Wonder. Of course that is why he’s on the JB-Tribute tour- this young brotha’s cold! ICandi, will blow your mind with their young vocalist Ms Candice, who you will fall in love with as an artist, a person, and a real classy woman. Djizzle is a one of a kind, young killer with his mind and lyrical content that will surely represent his generation and be the greatest rapper on all sides of the continent.
