ALBUM REVIEW Heavy Contact ETERNIA - It's Called Life Reported by: Phorensics Pound for pound Canada has the illest creative HipHop minds on the map today. From emcee's to producers to dj's, our neighbors to the north have been quietly cultivating and refining their methods of living through HipHop, and doing a damn fine job at it. This brings us to Eternia, one of the illest emcee's in the game period. To just say Eternia is the illest "female" emcee would be disrespectful her immense talent, and automatically put her in a box where cat's think she couldn't hold her own with male emcee's. Fuck that. Eternia spits words with a passion and fierceness that many artists, male or female, couldn't even hold a candle to. With the album "It's Called Life", Eternia has her heart and soul stamped on each and every track, and proves why she one of the best in the game. This album is 15 tracks of raw uncut boombap at it's finest touching on topics from life to death and everything in between. The second cut "Evidence" has Eternia explaining her journey in HipHop and why she does what she does so well, over a sample that most heads should instantly recognize and cover their face to. The track "Love" is a true standout on the LP. The story of her mother persevering over hardships and the love she has always gave back should hit home with a lot of people. The beautiful banger produced by DJ Merciless features Eternia's sister Jessica Kaya killing the hook telling their mother "you lift me up". That's the best part of "It's Called Life", the fact that one minute your breaking your neck with bangers, and the next you find yourself deep in reflection. Eternia teams up with Wordsworth and Ken Starr on "Struggle" the premo-esque track produced by Tone Mason. The track is full of ill funky bass hits, smooth violins and flowing harps and has the 3 emcee's spitting about how they see the world. For all the Justus League fans out there, Ceasar Comanche comes through with some insanely hilarious rants between a few tracks that's sure to have you buggin'. With production by Simahlak, DJ Merciless, Collizhun, Rude, Tone Mason, and Kenny Neal Jr. "It's Called Life" has the chops and sounds to compliment Eternia vocal stylings perfectly. For those who know about Eternia this is a must have album, and for those who don't, this is the perfect album to introduce yourself to Eternia and her craft. Bang ya head to this!!!! | ||
