ETERNIA - It's Called Life
Reported by: Cee-For

"Eternia is a Canadian MC with solid skills and burning ambition. DoubleBeef Records is proud to release two of her solo tracks, Evidence and Bang… You can cop this 7" exclusively through Shogun Distribution."

Aside from the odd track or two on the radio, I wasn't too familiar with Eternia's career to date, but after reading up a bit it seems she's got quite the repertoire; releases with numerous high profile labels, a healthy touring schedule, and a pretty decent fan base not only in Canada, but in Australia and plenty of other places as well from all reports.

Backed by a relatively complex beat of short vocal grabs, synths, and various other short parts all nicely layered and pieced together, Eternia delivers with a consistency that certainly backs up the reputation she's established in recent years. Evidence is an unapologetic, brazen, introduction to an album that's been a long time coming. Without going into a great amount of detail it offers us a little insight into the way Eternia approaches hip hop and life, why she's made some of the decisions she's made, and how she views certain aspects of the scene. It doesn't come on with some overly deep, long winded philosophy, but it's a fairly broad track when you stop to look at it.

After hearing Evidence I figured that was Eternia spitting hard, but then Bang comes in and steps up the pace. I'll probably regret aligning it with a kid's song, but the hook kind of plays off the old "if you're happy and you know it clap your hands" theme, just flipped and taken up a few hundred notches, "Existence is resistance to the status quo, if ya know then say so. Bang you're head to this". Sharing its main line with Manifested Fears After Hours fans will find the beat somewhat familiar; the samples have undergone vastly different treatments, particularly in the choice of effects and drum sounds, but it's an obvious comparison none the less. It's a nice back up to the lead single, something forceful to amp up the energy levels, but apparently for her live shows this is the grand finale, and it's pretty easy to see why. It's just got that extra bit of kick that'll leave the crowd wanting more.

Both tracks are taken from her album It's Called Life, so if you copped the full length then you've already heard these tracks, but if you want a bit of extra vinyl in you're collection for whatever reason, I doubt you'll regret the purchase.

Verdict:7/10
