Album Review - UWSA Stylus Magazine - June/July 2003
Various Artists - Bassments of Badmen Vol. 2 [Hand Solo Records/urbnet records]
as reviewed by Matt Hannam

As far as compilations go, usually I could care less. There has to be a reason to get it besides one alternate version of a song or
something like that. Here’s a reason to buy the Bassments; it’s got a load of artists you’ve probably never heard of. The first
Bassments of Bad Men spawned the careers of many a young up and coming emcee, including Mr. Major-Label Buck 65. This
time Hand Solo Records has compiled a roster of new underground hip hoppers who want to change the world. Including tracks
from Anticon’s Restiform Bodies, every oddball east coast rapper known to man (and a number of other unique hip hoppers) is
here. Some of these songs are more in tune with the sound of the backpacking nerd, but overall this disc is great. If you’re looking
for something new, this is exactly where to find it. It’s 20 tracks of completely original material and none of the duds on this.
