Various Artists - Bassments of Badmen Vol. 2 [Hand Solo Records/urbnet records]

as reviewed by Medina

You always have ill artists coming from north of the border. I mean you have Choclair, Saukrates, Swollen Members, Obscure Disorder and many more. Here we have a compilation of many artists from Canada doing their thing the way they know how. This joint starts off interesting. The beats are experimental and capture a whole lot of emotion. The flows are original and unusual, reminding me of the Anticon from Boston. After awhile, this comp gets boring and what captured my ear becomes contrived and forced. There are some solid concepts but not enough to hold my attention. Maybe it's beyond my ear's training. Maybe they are ahead of their time. The point is there's too much to get used to. This might be one of those albums you pick up later and start to understand it for its artistic value. For right now, it doesn't hold my attention, wanting to play another ablum to enjoy.
