NXNE 2008
Another year, another weekend of North by North East. Also another weekend of chaos and confusion at the NXNE conference center located at the Holiday Inn on King Street. For the second year in a row I arrived on Thursday to pick up my media passes only to find that neither of them were processed. The wait was to be an hour, which meant my whole lunch break waiting, but thankfully it coincided with my plan to see Ricca Razor Sharp on the Galaxie Acoustic Stage. So, with no further ado, my review of my NXNE weekend:

Sese Season
Mattia “SCORSESE” Di Simone was born on February 12th, 1983 in Mississauga,Ontario, Canada. Faced with challenges from an early age, Sesewas forced to grow up quickly. His father fought a long battle with drug addiction and left Mattia and his mother to fend for themselves when he was only 6 months old. Relocating to St.Catharines moving around alot within the city, Scorsese and his mother shuffled from apartment to apartment in all different parts of the city

Zaki Ibrahim
Zaki Ibrahim’s music is captivating and vibrant. It’s thick with poetics and steeped in a delicious mixture of earnest emotion and social commentary. Zaki’s path continues to progress, layering new experiences on top of each other that uniquely influence her musical ventures, culminating in her most recent project, eclectica (episodes in purple).

His name is Shadrach Kabango, though he’s known as Shad K. He was born in Kenya to Rwandan parents, grew up in Ontario, has a business degree from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, and is currently an MA student at SFU. That’s the capsule biography.
