Various - Underground Hip-Hop Volume 2 [URBNET Records]

By Jason Richards (June 2004)

Chart Magazine - Album Review (June 2004) VARIOUS Underground Hip-Hop Volume 2 (Urbnet/Outside) Do you support conscious independent Canadian hip-hop? The folks at Urbnet do. That's why they've dropped Volume 2 of their Underground Hip-Hop series, featuring all the superstars of the subterranean circuit ,including DL Incognito, Marvel, Mathematik and Classified. The real treats here come from lesser known MCs, like Arabesque, and his Mobb Deep-esque "Brace Yaself," Tru Paz, whose savoury dub rap "Rude Boy" may find you waking up the next morning with dreadlocks, and Louwop, whose "Iron Funk" lives up to its title. There are some throwaway numbers; Winnipeg's rap group Mood Ruff just shouldn't exist, but there are enough tracks to throw on your iTunes playlist. (Jason Richards)
