Various - Underground Hip-Hop Volume 1 [urbnet records]

as reviewed by Kompleckz

Urbnet Records have blazed the market with yet another fine compilation consisting of many underground Canadian emcee's and dj's. Titled "Underground Hip-Hop Volume 1", it is laced with some of the finest Canadian rhyme spitters in the game.

The album starts off with a massive posse cut featuring Dan-E-O, D-Sisive, Fatski, Kamau, The Grand I Am Perial, Esoteric (not of 7L & Esoteric), and Arcee titled "The Best Posse Cut You Ever Heard". Although the vocals are hot to death, DJ Fase' production kinda throws me off and causes me to lose interest quickly. Toronto heavyweights Brass Munk come through with Get Right which is right on point with both the lyrical delivery and production. Many exclusives scatter the album such as D-Sisive "Who wanna Go" which features the Hangman, Mood Ruff featuring Zion I "Times Own", and D-Shade "Space & Time". Many previously released singles can also be found in this collective such as DL Incognito "Head Rush", Obscure Disorder "The Grill" and DJ Serious featuring Nish Rawks "Frost Bite". Tables get turned when Kemo meets DJ Wax on the Free Agents track "Clash of the Titans" and 4th Pyramid holds it down on "Hold Me Back".

Overall this album is good listening and makes the perfect mix to bump in your ride while riding with the windows rolled down. This compilation also introduces many up and comers such as Thry Site, Tru-Paz, Anonymous Twist and Shadez among others.
